Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) levels are commonly used as an indicator of thyroid health. TSH is secreted by the pituitary which acts on the thyroid to release thyroid hormone (T3 or T4). Too high a TSH level indicates an underactive thyroid (hypothryoidism) where too little a TSH level indicates an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). TSH is a glycoprotein heterodimer with a molecular weight of approximately 28kDa.
