The membrane protein thyroid peroxidase (TPO; syn. MSA) is a key enzyme in the synthesis of thyroid hormones and identical with the so-called “thyroid microsomal antigen”. Recombinant TPO is expressed as a soluble variant comprising the extracellular domain targeted by anti-TPO autoantibodies.
